What is Content Clips?

The Content Clips web environment system dynamically blends resources from distributed digital libraries into online presentations. Its system framework and Flash-based tools were designed to help teachers and curriculum developers assemble learning activities from individual, multimedia clips, including images, audio, and video. Although the collection began with a focus on elementary life science, it is now expanding to other topics. The Content Clips system framework is flexible, scaleable, and content-independent, with broad applications for other grades, subjects, and settings, including history, art, and science museums.

Content Clips now includes Community Sign-on implementation for registered NSDL users and an Add your own clip link feature that enables a mashup between user-selected content and clips from the cataloged collection.

Telling STEM Stories through Content Clips The National Science Foundation awarded McLean Media an Outreach and Communication grant through the Research on Gender in Science and Engineering program (NSF HRD-0734004). The STEM Stories project is building an online collection that highlights careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and introduces strong role models through the personal stories of scientists. This effort is also updating and expanding content from the Telling Our Stories: Women in Science CD-ROM, which featured past and current women scientists. Aimed at Grades 4 – 8, this project takes advantage of the Content Clips system framework and tools to support the free distribution of a wide variety of interactive resources. The project web site will open to the public in June 2009 at www.stemstories.org.
